Dental Treatments and Medical Insurance 


There are many dental and oral surgery services that are often covered by medical insurers and provide a higher level of coverage and payment than your dental plan affords and are indeed medically necessary. These treatments include the following:

  • Congenitally missing teeth (Anodontia) 
  • Orthognathic (reconstructive) surgery to correct skeletal deformities 
  • TMJ (temporomandibular joint) splints and physical therapy services 
  • Dental implants 
  • “Knocked out” (avulsed) teeth as a result of traumatic injury


While many oral and maxillofacial surgery offices are able to submit claims to medical insurers on your behalf for these services, many general or other dental specialty offices are not well versed in submitting claims to medical insurers for reimbursement.
